Fall Family Picnic, September
As the crisp autumn air settles in and the leaves begin to change, the PTO hosts the Fall Family Picnic. It's the perfect opportunity to celebrate the season, connect with fellow parents, and enjoy quality time together. Families bring dinner and lounge chairs and meet on the playground. The PTO provides games, prizes, and fall treats!
Spelling Bee, November
This event is divided into separate groups for different grade levels and includes written and oral rounds. Participants receive medals and trophies, and winners move onto the regional competition.
Cultural Showcase, February
This event showcases the wonderful diversity of the Gates School community. All Gates students are welcome to participate. The Show includes:
Performance Show
Students perform a dance, sing, play a musical piece from their country of heritage, read a poem, perform martial arts, and so much more! Two to six 5th and 6th graders emcee the event! Emcees work together to write all their own material -- this is their school's show!
Fashion Show
Students showcase traditional clothing from their country of heritage.
Table Displays
Individual families or groups design table displays and talk to folks about their heritage. One table per country.
Community Global Art
Each year we have a Gates community family collaboration. For example, this past year there was a community global map that each family could contribute to when they arrived at the showcase.
International Food Sale
Families donate items for our food sale.
Robotics Fair, March/April
The Fair features the spectacular showcasing of student projects, fun robot games, and engaging activities. Families can immerse themselves in the world of robotics.
The Fair includes:

Students give presentations on their coding and robotics knowledge.
Booth Showcasing:
Young inventors display their incredible projects at our fair booths!
Fun & Games Galore:
Parent and High School volunteers organize games and activities so that kids can play, learn, and get inspired by robotics.
Ice Cream Social, May
Families come together on a Friday night to share ice cream with a wide variety of toppings. Volunteers run games for all participants, and this is also the night of the 6th grade social, which includes pizza and music for the 6th graders.
Teacher Appreciation Week, May
In May, the PTO sponsors Teacher Appreciation Week, which includes a staff breakfast, a staff luncheon, a staff free pull raffle, and stocking of the staff break rooms.
Enrichment Opportunities, September-June
Grade appropriate enrichment opportunities are sponsored throughout the year. These include author visits, magic, science and puppet show performances, and art and science-based workshops.
